Last saturday I visited a knife shop in Paris (they have a web page BTW, www.couteaux-courty.com ). Just to look arround, not to buy

Anyway, I found a La Griffe in mint condition that I like very much and I think is a "early" one, given the style and the materials (just check the leather sheath and the filework). If you want to see it, there are some poor scans:

I have had my La Griffe for about three months now, I bouhgt it at the Paris knifeshow, and I like it a lot. I am wearing it almost daily.

I like your knife, especially the sheath.
I bought a Griffe via mail-order from Couteaux-Courty as well. A very nice surprise, I thought I had ordered an "ordinary" Griffe with buffalo horn scales. What Courty´s pictures weren´t showing was nice blue spacers under the scales and file work all along the spine and tang (up and down side), similar to yours (but not on the finger hole). No leather sheath though, just kydex.

I was wondering if anyone from the states had ordered from them. Their prices on La Griffes seems good. Would their shipping costs be too much or are they a good alternative source for Perrin's work.

Check out www.szaboinc.com

Laci Szabo appears to stock them, though they are @$165.00 here in the states.

FYI, BladeArt has a good selection La Griffes, including some fancy ones, as well as a number of Fred's other patterns.

I just placed an order for a Le Combat model.
Looks like a street bowie except with a 4" blade. This will be my first forged knife. Can't wait to get it.

Not a bad way to start the day.

I love it, Frank, it's a beauty. Please be sure to do a write up when it arrives.

I love the clip point on this one. I personally think that it will need a leather sheath, but we'll see. I'll do a write up when I get it.

I see you're from Brooklyn, Frank. If you'll be going to the ECCKS in March, please bring it along. I'd love to see it in person. I have 4 of Fred's knives with another on order. They are all La Griffe versions & I've been thinking it may be time to branch out a bit.

FYI, Spyderco has a prototype Perrin that Sal has been bringing to shows. IIRC, handle construction is similar to the Moran with a 5" blade very similar to yours.

Yes I will be at the ECCKS and I will bring it. I just got off the phone with an employee of couteaux-courty and I was told that Mr. Perrin is sick at the moment and that I should expect delivery within a month.
Its not that bad I guess. I hope that he feels better soon. I was going to get a La Griffe but this one just "spoke" to me. I also got to see the Sypderco Perrin camp bowie proto at the Nov. show and it is indeed a sweet knife. Wasn't that one a handmade piece?

I'll be at the ECCKS when the doors open that Friday. I'll probably print some BF labels as I've done for the last few shows so that it's easier for folks to find each other. I'll bring along my La Griffes so you get a chance to see then as well. If you follow the "toys" link below, you'll find pics in the meantime. I haven't been without the keyring model since I got it over a year ago & the skeleton model probably sees more carry time than the rest of my NKs combined.

I am sorry to hear of Fred being sick. Hopefully it's not serious & he'll be back on his feet soon.

I think you're right about the Spyderco prototype being handmade. I'm hoping that Sal sees enough interest in it to make it part of their regular line-up.

I'll see you there and if its anything like last year a bunch of us will be sitting at a table sharing our wares. It'll be a blast.

I just ordered a griffe from corty-couteaux with buffalo handle scales, red liners, and file work for $145.00 shipped.

This is an incredible price. The same knife goes for $300.00 from in country dealers!

They also have the same incredible deals for Laguiole style knives and wine openers.

Blues introduced me to Fred at a Blade Show a couple of years ago and I ended up ordering one from Fred. That may also be a good way to go.

I have enjoyed this knife. It holds a very sharp edge for a comparitively long period.
