Seems like when a person does some progression photos, the outcome can seem a bit anti-climactic.
I guess that's the way things go.
Here is the Bowie that thrilled my customer immensely.
And he did have a great deal to do with its design and treatment.
The Walnut is SUPER!!! dark, but the character is outlandish. Really awesome.
Headed to Arkansas.

And it's a bit difficult to see - but this is the actual piece of Walnut that is on the knife:

I needed to send a quick photo to the customer and just thought I'd toss it up here this morning so you'd have some stuff to look at while drinking your coffee. :D
San Mai Bowie blade with sharpened clip, which will get a hot-blued frame.
Guard and spacer - which still need a lot of manipulation and stock removal - are wrought iron, and will get deeply etched and hot-blued as well.
Not even sure of the handle material as of now.
Full take-down. Rock solid.
Enjoy your coffee.

Looking good Karl. I'm also looking forward to seeing this one finished.

Thanks, Rick.
We're making a decision on the wrought iron hardware right now.
The frame will be hot-blued black.
I'm thinking we should leave the wrought iron as-etched, and NOT hot-blued.

That is a great looking knife Karl. What are the layers in your San Mai?

Looking good Karl, love the subtle detail on the side of the guard.

This is going to be another sweet knife Karl. I like the blued path better but that is just me. either way I am sure it will look Great.

I understand your esitation...that wrought iron guard/spacer is really pretty as is!!!

Karl, how long did you etch the wrought iron? I have a guard on the bench to etch.

As always a great looking knife!

Steve, I did three 15 minute cycles and could maybe have just done two.
At the time we were still toying with the idea of hot-bluing and a deep etch works well for that.

Well, I ran out of screws and had to wait for some to get shipped.
And then - they forgot to ship them!
Anyway, all is well with this knife.
I had to send some updated photos to the customer.
All I need to do now is etch the blade to expose the San Mai, hot-blue the frame and I also will do a Tung oil finish on the walnut. Even though it is stabilized, tung oil really makes the figure pop.
And please, forgive me, these are not intended to be certificate grade photos - I just stuck the knife in a tree and let 'er rip.

beautiful...the wrought iron is definitely on my material wish list, and the last picture of the san mai transition is very very interesting...this time appeared another misterious ghost line!!!
