Here's my first offering for 2010. I've been making this a little at a time whilst doing orders. Always good to have something to do whilst annealing and waiting for epoxy to dry etc!
10 1/4" blade of 1095, 15 3/4" O/L.
Macassar ebony handle with red fibre on a frame construction handle.
Hand stitched (still got sore fingers!) sheath with rattlesnake skin inlay. (Thank you to the kindness of you folks on the sheath forum who gave advice on that:))

Thank you for looking:)

I really love the way Macassar ebony works and the way it looks. One of my favorite materials to use.
That whole package come out nicely.
Thanks for showing us.

Very nice Ian. I like the knife and sheath VERY much. What would add to the knife for me would be a tapered tang.

Your work is getting better all the time.

Thanks for posting it.

Peter, I did think of tapering the tang, but decided not to as this would have put the balance further forward. As it is it balances right on the point where the blade and guard meet. I must admit though, a taper would have looked better. Maybe next time!
Karl, I love macassar too. It's far better to work with than African ebony I find, as the African really irritates my eyes and nose:barf:

Thanks for all your comments.

Ian,

Very clean (for me that's one of my finest compliments)! I like it a lot. To me the straight tang doesn't bother me as I will often leave them full thickness for better balance on a big Bowie this way. The red spacers are a nice touch with the ebony and the scales seem to have what would be a comfortable contour.

Nicely done.

Gary

Ian, as always superb work and faultless. Is this one for you or a customer?

Clean good looking knife

Would have prefered hidden tang but that is just personal preference

Funnily enough, it was going to be a hidden tang to start with. I'd always wanted to try a frame handle, and I've only got a stock of thin maccasar so that kind of made my decision for me!
Thank you all for your comments.
Some positive feedback makes it all worthwhile, which in turn helps when it comes to getting out in the shop when it's minus 6c outside!
Cheers,

Ian

very nice work. only thing I'd prefer is black or brown spacer material because the eye goes to the red rather than making the whole frame handle one item to view.
