frame handle material ?

What steel do you use for your frames when making a frame handle? I was thinking of using 416 but have not been able to find 1/2" thick 416 flat stock. Is using cold rolled or hot rolled steel acceptable or a good idea?

Why 1/2"?

I use damascus and rarely over 1/4" thick.

What I wanted to do was to mill out an integral frame handle so that the whole handle is all one piece. Just something I figured I would try.
