The frame lock on my kershaw leek is so strong that I cant center the blade without it opening slowly, and the lock is wearing down when it locks up because its so strong. and eventually that will create play in the blade, how do i fix this?

I don't quite understand what you mean by "centering the blade". If the blade is not satisfactorily centered, that's a quality-control issue.A blade that isn't evenly ground on both sides will appear skewed when in the folded position, and if the asymmetry is severe, the blade may even come into contact with one side of the liner/frame.

Sounds like the lock is just "wearing in". Keep playing with it and it will work more smoothly. Don't worry too much about lock wear. Once the mating surfaces of the frame and tang begin to achieve firm, even contact, wear will slow to a minimum. Anyhow, all lock mechanisms will wear out over time, and eventually the blade will be ground away into nothing over repeated sharpenings. Knives are tools with a finite life span.

Kershaw Customer Service can help you out. Their phone number is on their website.

you think i shouldnt worry about the lock wearing down? It locks up HARD. like all the way over. and i kinda have to dig the frame lock out from underneath the blade part of the knife. It literally gets stuck under there. it feels like you just took a normal frame lock knife and shoved the lock over as hard as you could. If that makes sense? and i dont wanna send it away cuz i dont feel like its worth being without my leek for a week. at least not yet.

I understand what you mean now. A lock bar that goes in beyond halfway through the thickness of the tang, on a relatively new knife, is not normal. Contact Kershaw and they'll set things right.

Bend the lockbar out to reduce the locking force. You can adjust lockup and centering by tweaking the pivot while applying pressure to the side of the blade. Outside of a Sebenza and similar, tolerances between the pivot and the pivot hole in the blade leave enough room for the blade to pivot on a plane not quite the same as the center of the handle.

k. i just bent the lock out a little bit and i think i bent it too far. can i just take it apart later and bend it back to where it locks up with no verticle blade play?

I really dont want to call kershaw unless i have to. I dont want to be without my leek for a week.

Be without the knife for a week, or live with the lock problem. It's that simple.

Your knife DOES have a problem if the lock is all the way on the other side, and bending isn't going to help. It's going all the way to the other side because the lock bar is too short, or the tang is too worn in, or both. So if you bend it, it's going to have a lot of vertical play, and it might be unsafe to use.

Choose Warranty Service, and then tell them what seems to be the problem in the message box. This isn't something that you're going to be able to repair yourself, so don't check off any of the parts boxes. They'll send you a message back giving you instructions on sending the knife in.

You should get your knife back within a week or so (although they do say allow 6-8 weeks or something like that.) I had a similar problem with a lock, and I think they got the knife back to me within a week.

I've both reduced & increased lock-up depth/force by bending and aligning the blade several times on several liner and framelock knives.

But yes, sending it in or getting a new knife is probably your best bet.

will it be free to send it in? I feel like im annoying kershaw cuz i striped 2 screws on 2 different knives on a row and had to order screws from them. lol. but will they still fix it even tho I just bent the lock out of place?
