Frame lock issue

Hi everyone!

I have a new knife with frame lock.
I love this knife but the issue is, when I flick it open the lock happens to "over-slip" to almost the other side of the blade and sticks.

Can anyone help me with fixing it?

Welcome,

It might help if you mention the model and brand. A picture might help as well.

Four thoughts-

1. How hard are you flicking it? Are you doing a full-force wrist-flick? Because that can cause the lock to over-travel across the tang of the blade. Frame lock folders are typically designed to be opened in a more casual manner by using a thumb stud, thumb hole, etc.

2. Is the pivot loose? A loose pivot can cause the lock to over-travel.

3. Is there lubricant on the tang of the blade? If there is, that can also cause the lock to over-travel.

4. If none of those are the issue, there is always the possibility that the knife was not well-made. In which case there might not be any fix and you might consider sending it back if you can.

There's no lubricant, I even cleaned it with alcohol to make sure. Also the pivot is tight. The flick has barely any force, the minimal wrist motion i can produce

Gerber is not now known for high quality. Overtravel is a very common thing on many of their models. Probably not a (good) fix for it.

Live and learn.

the lock bar face could be peened to extend the lock bar a bit and stop the over travel, but that wouldn't be a great permanent fix. also you'd have to be very careful to not really change the lock geometry much and make it dangerous.

if it's new, still has some sort of a warranty. contact gerber and have them replace it.
