frame Locks

It seems to me that frame locks have more problems than other kinds of blade locks. I know I have had more problems with them. I have never really had any problems with the other kinds of locks, axis, liner, button, lockback. What about everyone else?

I don't really like frame locks or liner locks. I know there are knives of both types that people have had good experiences with, but they have always had the most hit or miss feedback in general.

There does seem to be more and more posts and videos concerning $150-400 framelock models with people talking about finally getting a good one after initially getting a couple bad ones.

I prefer lockbacks and TriAd. The $20-80 ones work just fine and keep on working. Never saw a lockback with a problem on deployments. I'm sure lack of flipper and/or assist mechanisms helps with that.

I think that frame locks just get more scrutiny than other types of locks.

I agree. I think with the tactical knives being the in thing now for the last ten years or so they are more common than the lock backs and such that we had for how many years. I personally have not had any trouble with mine frame or liner lock but I can see why you hear more abut it today than you do frame locks or axis type.

The thing I like about frame locks is that I can apply pressure to the lock by gripping it. Being able to feel the lock bar through my fingers brings me this extra sense of security while applying a lot of force to the knife.

titanium framelocks are at once patrician and metrosexual, and that automatically puts them in the spotlight. otherwise, they're just locks.

1) Back-locks
2) Frame-locks
3) Liner-locks
IMO

I've never had any real issues with framelocks, but I'm not a huge fan. It seems to me that one of the major advantages of a framelock is that it allows for very slim, light folders but most of the ones are the market are quite chunky and overbuilt. I like big, heavy folders but I prefer a different locking mechanism on mine.

It's because the original got it right, (Reeve) and some other's who haven't been making them long sometimes don't master the trick. However there are some makers that do a damn fine job of it, it's not easy to get perfect frame lock geometry.

The one on this one works.

I haven't had any problems with framelocks, even though I've only owned less expensive ones (like several of the Boker/CLB line). I usually prefer folders with scales (wood, G10, frn, whatever) on both sides, though, so I tend to prefer linerlocks and lockbacks for this reason. Just personal taste for me, though.

I actually like framelocks a whole lot. I like the aesthetics and mechanics of the design. I actually prefer it over most other lock types, with the exception of the AXIS and Compression locks.

I'm a frame-lock kind of guy. Titanium frame-locks, that is. Never had any issues with mine, but I tend to purchase those in the $100+ range, and they tend to do things right; Kershaw, ZT, Camillus Cuda.
