I was wondering if I could get some opinions on a variety of frame lock folders and which ones would be good purchases. This is my shot list of knives that I can think of.

Kershaw Vapor, Camillus EDC, BM Monolock, Mission MPF, CRKT S2, Apogee, TNT, Sebenza

From what I've read in other threads, the Sebenza will probably be the hands-down winner, but I'd also like to know how the less expensive factory blades stack up. The Vapor is cheap enough to try out, but I don't expect much from a Kershaw, had some horrible problems with a 1510 Random Task, and it was 5 times the price.

You are correct. At least in my opinion, the Sebenza is the best. It ruins you on all other tactical folders.

That aside, the Camillus EDC is a great bargain; especially the 154CM edition and the Anniversary Edition. The higher the range you go with the Camillus EDC, the better you get. The design is sensational, courtesy of Darrel Ralph. The support is excellent, courtesy of Will Fennell. It's my favorite small folder. The more you use it, the more you appreciate it.

DITTO!!!!!!! I would add the Talonite version at the top of that list! IMHO!
:D :D

You'll pretty much find that the Sebenza will be considered the ultimate standard by which frame-locks will be judged and that is by all means justifiable.

My very recently acquired Darrel Ralph EDC is also a frame lock and I am still stunned by the incredible solidity and strength of this knife. It is amazing.

The best examples of this type of construction are the above-mentioned, but I'm sure there are others out there. So far, those are the ones that have really impressed me.

Sebenza is definitely a good one. I have 2 of the CRKT S2's and they are pretty decent. Lock up is solid and has been reliable for me.

The best on-line listing of frame lock knives I know of is the website Marcus Blattner has made. Great collection.

Shmackey - I don't see any posts in this thread saying a Sebenza is better than a TNT. One person says a Sebenza is the ultimate standard, but he makes no mention of the TNT. I own a Sebenza, but I don't own a TNT (yet). I would concur that the Sebenza is the standard, but standards can be exceeded. It may well be that the TNT does this. But just think, if the Sebenza is the standard and a knife does exceed it, then that has got to be some damn good knife. :)

This is my favorite framelock

Wegner design of course! :D

Steelhed, just defending the honor of the customs. The first thread said that the Sebbie is "probably the hands-down" winner (even though that thread mentions the TNT) and the second thread concurred.

Shmackey - If I may ask, not having a TNT, what makes the TNT better than the Sebenza? The choice of steel is obviously different, but I consider steel to be a matter of preference. Is it a matter of ergonomics, or is the overall precision of manufacturing better? Is the TNT as easy to take down as the Sebenza? This particular feature is very important to me. Also, does the TNT have the same locking system as a Seb, utilizing a frame lock and bar?

I'm thinking about a custom frame lock, and am having trouble deciding on which to purchase. At the price of a custom, already owning a Seb, the difference would have to justify the price.
