How tight do I need to make this. I cut my recess and it takes light tapping to get it in but I can see daylight at a couple of points. Do I need to peen it to an airtight fit or is a little daylight OK? I'm talking maybe two thousandths of an inch.

I'm still worried about the strength of this joint.

Thanks Sylvester. I'll just leave it like that and see how it works. It is a neat way to install handles but I think I'll pin the guard too just to be extra sure.

Peter,With the framed handle you can bring your tang in allot narrower.Mine are normaly 1/4 inch to 3/8 inch at the most...Yes This is the size of the tang on my Fragon slayer and look what Mario put it through and couldn't hurt it.
I like to make My cuttout in the frame just big enough that I can make little cut outs in the frame from the tang towards the handle,I feel that it will add in the epxy holding better. As the epoxy is the adhesive that is going to hold it in.Mine are usually not as tight as yours are,due to the fact that The exces epoxy has to squeeze out somewhere.
They look great though..
Good luck.

Thanks Bruce. I wondered about the epoxy but decided to go easy on the epoxy and go for a good mechanical fit. There is a small well now for the epoxy to go if it can get there. I'll whittle the tang down a little now and cut some notches.

I've got the frame profiled now and the more I tinker with it the more I like the idea.

Chalk up another one for your great tutorials. Thanks!:)
