Could a maker or someone who disassembles and reassembles framelocks give a specific process on how to put one back together correctly? There have been several threads lately here and in the manufacturers forums about blade centering issues and I have had trouble with two framelocks once I take them apart to clean them. On putting them back together, I may have the blade off center or the lock doesn’t seat in the same spot, (either to far or not far enough) etc. Is there a specific sequence to tightening the screws? Any insights would be most appreciated.

Thanks Keith, but that doesn’t help. The Sebenza is the easy one, the framelocks I have don’t have the blade bushing, which is what makes assembly of the Sebenza so much easier.

With the Cuda MAXX you have to be sure that the pivot pin (female portion) is pushed up as far as it will go into the hole. It has a tendency to slip and if you are not careful when you reassemble it, the washers will get caught inbetween the pivot--blade--and handle. This will cause some centering problems as well as lockup problems. I've found that once I have everything lined up as I want it I will start the pivot screw first, then the handle screws. I don't tighten them down yet....just get them all started. The next thing I do is to gently close the blade so as to not scratch it against a handle side, and then finish tightening the pivot bolt, ALL THE WAY TIGHT, then the handle screws. After that I back off the handle bolt a bit and open the knife, then close the knife to check centering, then open it again to check lockup. It might take a couple more openings and closings to get the pivot adjusted to my liking but this method will pretty much put my framelock back into perfect operating condition. Of course as in everything else YMMV.

The pivot bushing doesn't really make that big a difference in assembly IMHO. It does make it slightly easier to tighten the screws though, just tighten down all the way and your done. On a knife without the bushing you need to adjust the tension on the pivot to your liking. It is a bit more work, but not really any more complicated.

Basically what I do is get all the screws put through the holes on the lock side scale. Then add the washer blade and other washer and place the other scale on top of that. Then get all the screws started in just to hold things together, and then check for lock operation and blade centering. Once everything seems good I will lock down all the handle screws nice and tight. Last comes the pivot screw. Usually I will just tighten it up, and then try the action. I will then loosen slightly if it is to tight, and repeat as necessary.

Of course as long as you got things apart you might as well make sure they are nice and clean, and but a dab of good lube on all moving parts as you put them back together.
