Framelock CRKT M16 folders. Improvement? Or still not good enough? Thoughts?

So now CRKT decides to put out framelock versions of the M16 edc. Do you think this will be a good selling point, or does the folder need more improvement? If so, what changes would you like to see in the future? Better steel? Different colors? What say you? Personally, I want a better steel. Like VG10.

As long as it doesn't have that God-awful LAWKS.

A titanium frame lock version of the large m16, with a drop point blade. Also reversible clip and better SS.

well..... its a start

Steel upgrade is next on the list

Agree 110%, they a pain. Got a torq screw driver, and removed mine
The inner lock is more than enough

Definitely blade steel can improve. On the other hand improving blade steel will increase the cost

Add on a tanto version too...
Their are a few. The M16 - 14SF and 14SFG are tanto versions

Lipstick on a pig, IMO. ;)

I tell you what mang , the M16 that used to belong to me in the early 2000's ( that I used for at least a year ) is still being used two owners later on a ranch in a little one horse town called Pixley , and that is no bullshit. CRKT does make a whole lot of 'iffy' knives but here and there they've managed to put out some real workhorses.

That aside , the first thing CRKT needs to concentrate on is making sure the product is the quality that they used to put out years back. Then design the knife around that.

It depends on if the design and execution of the lock is correct. If not, it is a waste of time and resources. Quality in the execution is important.

crkt's nowadays are good for self defense.
The flippers deploy quick and don't cost that much if it comes to losing them
(eg: cops confiscating)

For occasional utility they ok, but for constant utility there's way better like the emersons for example

The blade steels dull after a month or 2 of constant utility use.
Mine dulled after 1 and 1/2 months cutting boxes and thick cables and punching through ceilings to pull cables
through.
Friend had an emerson commander, used it and abused it worse than me constantly and only sharpened
after 5 months

Ah, easily remedied. A few quick turns of a screwdriver and you can just remove them. I take them out of all my CRKT's. I am intrigued for a framelock of the M16 series. I hope they continue with the the V grinds like the G-10 versions.

my list...in no particular order...

- better heat treat on the aus 8 and no added price.... and/or vg-10 with proper heat treat.

- next go back to the lawks and eliminate the auto lawks. the lawks was nice. want it it's there. don't want it....then never engage it. for those where the knob bugs them they can remove the lawks, very easily.

-plain edge version of the sf's.

-clip point or drop point version, would be nice on the sf's.

frame lock does nothing for me, over the liner lock. that's me though.

If they replace that gawd awful aus-4 blade, I would pick one up with an lawks in a heartbeat.

The vast majority of the M16 lineup moved to the 8Cr series steels a few years back.

I, for one, really do *NOT* want VG-10. The AUS-8 equivalents are fine, and adding a steel like VG-10 would increase the price noticeably even it was made in China.

Auto-LAWKS I could take or leave. It's not a huge issue but my preference is manual if it's there.

Also, some more handle color choices besides black and tan. There used to be a couple in British racing green as well as a carbon fiber version. Even just a different paint job to take it away from "yay, another black and silver knife".

I'd like it in Acuto+ steel, and the rest is good enough for me, LAWKS can be removed anyways.

I agree, the 8Cr steel series, though not the best, really seems to hold up for a $40 knife. I have one of the SFG versions and it has held up well enough.
