Title says it all. I'd be possibly willing to go a little higher, but certainly not over $400. Does such a thing exist?

If you're willing to stretch it a little, the Kershaw Tilt should fit your needs. It's not exactly IKBS, but it should be similar. Release is expected to be before BLADE.

CRKT Eros and Ripple for around $100

Good knives! Some folks shy away from buying CRKT but both of these Ken Onion designs are top-drawer, imo.

I only have the Ripple, but I can say that it is a sweet little knife and so far I dig the Acuto+ steel as well. The only thing to consider is the relatively weak detent; you can shake the blade out of the handle without too much trouble. All in all, it is worth picking up just to try the IKBS--redefines 'smooth.' The Eros is more expensive due to the milled titanium, but either can be had for under $200.

Outrageous. Send the thing back. My CRKT Eros has a legendary detent strength and won't open up like that unless you drop it on the ground. The only possible flaw would be a slight spot near the handles that looks like the anodizing chipped away or something, though it doesn't bother me too much, especially given the reasonable price.

When I say relatively easy, I mean it will shake loose easier than many of my other folders that do not have IKBS. I did not realise that my Ripple could be defective. How does your Eros compare to your Ripple?

I don't have a Ripple myself, so I can't compare. However, my blade won't come out of the handles simply by shaking it. Even my Benchmade Axis lock knives are easier to shake out of the handles. My policy is that a properly done knife shouldn't be shook out of the handles like that, at least not easily.

I would agree with that. The IKBS seems amost... frictionless?... like it wants to open. In order to clear the detent, I have to give it a couple good hard shakes. This was only discovered after I read about how customs gives folders the ol' shake test. I thought if there was one folder I owned that might have a problem, it would be the Ripple... :) I don't think that it would open like that just from regular carry though, unless the pivot screw gets a little too sloppy/slack.
