Hello guys:)

Before i start i must say that framelock knives are my favourite of all the ones i tried with different locking mechanisms and i believe i tried most, if not all.
I like the fact that you can control the locking mech of the knife while grabbing the handle.
However, i had issues with two knives with this kind of system, a Strider PT and a Hest folder.
The lock never failed on me but bladeplay was the issue that made me sell them.
More and more have i seen people reporting problems with framelock knives so, as per the title, are framelock knives most prone to issues?
What are your experiences?

Thanks for looking:)

No issues here.
What knife are you edcing now?

this:D

Try a Sebenza I bet the guy who invented the framelock knows how to make them right. The above knifes you have mentioned are not known for great framelocks I know the Hest had problems and I know strider did until they fixed their lock geometry. There are Sebenza's still working perfect that are 20 +

Really guys, before starting this thread i thought a bit about it and i realised that most of the issues i've seen, locking wise, were related to framelocks!

If your HEST was a 1.0 it isn't surprising you had problems. They were prone to issues of the like. I have a 2.0 which is currently my only frame lock and I've had no issues.

i had both.
the 2.0 had no problems i agree but by being afraid it would develop them i sold it.
i know for a fact that the knife is still going strong with no issues.
however why did it develop problems?
why did some ZTs 0550s also had it?
a friend also told me he had to send his 0560 in because the lock failed!
Why does these things keep happening with framelocks? that's my question.

Important: I must say that i never owned any ZT so i'm only refering to it due to some comments i read and one particular event of a failing 0560 that was reported to me by a friend!
I'm not trying to talk poorly about any knife company!

It's speculation, but I'd surmise that some of it might be simply the demographic that frequents this forum. In particular, Bladeforums members are both more likely to own a higher end knife (which most framelocks end up being) as well as more likely to post about problems/issues. These problems may be real or imagined.

never thought of that but it's a good point:D

I've had several framelocks: a leek, a small sebenza, a 0550, etc. . Not one has ever had a problem. the lockup on my leak has changed a bit but it's still rock solid. I could see the 0550 wearing down eventually, especially if i keep opening and closing it compulsively, but so far the lockup hasn't changed perceptibly and it's completely solid. My small sebenza is perfect and i doubt it will ever change. Titanium framelocks are more prone to wear than steel framelocks but they're both fine if done correctly. I might get jumped on for saying this but companies that produce bad framelocks (like strider) either don't do any worthwhile r&d or just don't care about the quality of the product they put out. I don't think its that hard to produce a knife with a working lock, companies have been doing it for decades.

+ 1 on this. I've owned two HEST 2.0's and they both had great locks. They have fixed the blade lock geometry problems that the 1.0 had. Don't be afraid to try the new HEST 2.0 They are very strong well made knives.
