framelock wear

Well it finally happened. I wore my framelock out on my 1997 lg reg seb! It still locks up tight when the lock is fully engaged but I can disengage it with the slightest amount of pressure. Inspection with magnification shows the wear on the lock. I guess it's time to send it in to CRK for an overhaul. Anyone else ever had this problem? Is it covered under warranty?

9 years huh? Not bad I'd say; specially if you've used it as your one and only pocket knife day in and out for that time. I pesonally have never had this happen. I have Seb's that are that old, but I also rotate my daily carry.

As far as being covered under warranty, you will have to contact the factory. Ask to speak with Anne, I'm sure she will help ease your concern and recommend what is best.

but I can disengage it with the slightest amount of pressure.

I recently bought one second hand that was like this. They merely retensioned the lock bar.

I was thinking about how many times that I opened and closed that knife over the last 9 years. Even if it wasn't carried everyday, I'll bet more than 10,000x
would be a very conservative estimate!

That happened to my seb a LONGG time ago. Nothing wrong with it in my opinon. Doing any lock tests it still will pass with flying colors. This includes the test where you jam the blade into something solid and torque your grip counter clockwise.

I consider the lock worn out when it will start to fail, or have a worn ball detent to the point of not holding the blade closed securely, or have blade play to the point of rattling. Afterall, some lockbacks come with blade play, although they do not rattle.
