Framelock, what is this part for?

I just picked up a Kershaw Cryo and can see why it's so popular. However, I've had framelock knives before, and this is the first with a disk screwed to the scale that extends past the edge of the lockbar. It looks like a small fender washer. I have seen it on other knives in pics but this is the first time in person. I just can't figure out its purpose. What is it there for? What does it do?

Thanks!
Neil

To keep the lockbar from overextending.

Its an over travel stop, prevents you from accidentally "over" unlocking the bar, thus causing it to stop having enough inward spring force to actually lock up the blade open or closed.

He designed the lockbar stabilizer to keep the actual lockbar from over-extending when you disengage the lock. It's a neat little touch that you find on all his designs.
