Rich - How did you find out that Frank Buck made your bowie knife??? Does it have a distinguishing mark that identifies it as a Frank Buck knife???

Al Buck also has a son Frank. There is mention of him a few times in the book
"The Story of Buck Knives" by Tom Ables.

There is one pic showing him working on a knife. San Deigo...

This is just from a quick scan through... May be more....

On Edit: Frank D. Buck was Chucks younger brother. Directed the folding hunter program for a time and later became Customer Service Manager. He died in an auto accident in July 1974.

Again, from Tom Ables book about the History of Buck Knives. Facinating reading. I have already read it a few times, but picked it up a couple hours ago when I saw this post....cant seem to put it down. Page 51 is very interesting reading.

So, I doubt the knife in question is this Frank Buck.....who knows....

Another edit: I can't seem to quit..... The date codes in Tom Ables book are all wrong after 1991

thoes date codes were changed after the book came out i belive...
web site is correct....
yes it is good read
i have located other pictures of the submarine al was on
if al were stilll here i could swap sub sea storyes with him as i was on a ww2 type sub that would not have been too much difrent...
have thought of doing it and the ship his grand father was captan of as scrimshaw on a handle...

Frank was Chucks younger Brother, and he did die in a auto accedent back in 1974. Frank was one of my best friends I met him back in the mid 50!s at a drivein resturant in La Mesa Ca. We were both into Hot Rods and we both liked the same Waitres, But thats an other story. Frank made knives and I was a young heat treater that worked at Star Heat Treat and Fishing Supplies, Thats when I started heat treating knife blades, And met the rest of the Buck Family Al, and Chuck. Its been A friendship ever sence. Frank did make alot of Bowies, I think the last ones he made were in the late 60!s, He made alot for the guys over in Vitnam and he also made me one. It was stollen back in the mid 80!s. Frank was a great guy and a good friend. Paul Bos.

I guess it's in the blood. My old man put in seven war patrols during WW2 starting with an S-boat and ending up on Harder #1 with a few in between. The way things worked when you got in off patrol you immediately volunteered for the first one going back out.

Thanks Paul for that update!! Great information!

There was another Frank Buck. Bring em back alive Frank Buck if I remember the slogan correctly. YOu will see his name on knives even...not Buck knives of course.
I have several images in the archives of knives made by Chuck Buck's brother Frank. You can tell if it is a Frank Buck knife from across the room. He made huge bowies, usually with exagerated clips and huge skull crushers. The smallest knife of his that i have ever seen is the modified 122 nemo I have.
I would be glad to email pictures to anyone interested...since I still have not figured out how to post them here.
