I few months ago, whilst holidaying in the United States of America, I was introduced to a rather curious dish. A simple, yet delicious dish that involved spicy fried chicken wings with blue cheese dip, and various other non-essential green things. It was sold and advertised in the various food houses we frequented as 'Buffalo Wings'. As I have since discovered, that being the town of origin of the dish.

Upon arriving home with an addiction akin to seeking a form of opiat relief, I frantically sought the recipe for it. Many recipes are available on the electronic web that spans the wide world, and all contain a particular ingredient crucial to the flavour - Franks Red Hot Sauce. To my horror and utter depression, this product is unavailable for commercial sale in Australia.

Various recipes say Tobasco can be used as a substitute. I tried desperatley to get the mix right with this condiment, but it never worked.

Then, I disovered a small food importer in Melbourne called - USA Foods. They keep regular stock of the much sought after Franks Red Hot Sauce and it is available for sale to anyone in this very poor land of ours downunder.

I promptly purchased a gallon, and Buffalo Wings will be gracing my table for the next several nights as the evening meal.

Making me hungry, my diet is over and I could really go for some wings... Where is my wing man when I need him?
:-) congrats on the score on the sauce!

Franks is a delicious hot sauce. Pretty mild. You can also use it on other stuff besides hot dogs.

I used to put it on just about everything (not just wings).

I have kind of made a switch to Sirichai hot sauce for most things now (more Asian style sauce).

Enjoy your Franks red hot sauce (pretty mild actually).

Now you need to get a recipe for sweet and spicy wings (I think you can add brown sugar to the Franks to change the flavor).

Now, a side note (or word of warning), Do not, I repeat, do not gorge your self on unlimited all you can eat hot wings with your buddies, then decide you will walk the 2 miles back to your car to "walk it off". That was one of the worst cases of the "hurry up shuffle" I have had, let me tell you. There was more than one stop to sit and pray at the same time!!!!! (the problem being the total lack of rest room facilities between the wing joint, and the car which was parked at the university about 2 miles away).

I like Frank's Red Hot Sauce on my chicken as well...

If it is too mild for you, a few- and I do mean a few- drops of Dave's Insanity Sauce will kick it up to a new level. The flavors blend nicely.

Tobasco isn't wing sauce, it's gravy!

Franks is great but I am sriracha man myself. It really adds nice flavor to things especially wings.

I'm giving you the "golf clap" right now. Congratulations on discovering one of, if not THE greatest American contribution to fine cuisine. I actually shed a tear when you made me consider that not everyone in the world has had Buffalo wings... and Franks Red Hot. I have Franks in my veins. Good reconnaissances bro!!

If your source ever runs dry, I'd be more than happy to ship gallons at a time to you!
