Since I lost my ZDP leek, I have been EDCing a composite blade model, but really missed the ZDP. I finally picked up a used one, and wanted to glass bead the blade and put it on the stainless handle. I'm probably one of the very few people that do not appreciate the TI handles. When I made the switch, the thumb studs on the ZDP are a larger diameter than the one on the comp blade, so 1 knife had play at the frame lock and 1 had interference. I ended up keeping the TI frame lock, putting the stainless scale on the other side, and lightly filing the area on the stainless knife where the the thumb stud hits, so both studs make contact at the same time. I gave the blade a light bead blast, but it is not enough to blur the grind lines on it, since the steel is so hard.

In all, with the interchangeability between various versions of the leek, I was suprised to see that not all models are interchangeable...

Does the ZDP Leeks blade have a flat grind???

I have 3 different Leeks that all have hollow grind, but I really want to find a flat grind Leek. I like ZDP (except for the cost :( ).

I am a little puzzle/concerned about the issues with interchanging the blades as well. I have been pondering over a Franken Leek concept that would possibly involve switching some parts.

I have a tanto point blade with aluminum scale on one side and the stainless frame lock on the other. The only issue is the length of the screws that go through the back spacer. One screw barely makes it, one is flush with the side and one projects a little from the side. Other than that the knife looks good, to me, and functions flawlessly. Switching some parts should not be an issue. Assuming you have two knives, if it doesn't work, just switch it back.

At least with 1 titanium scale the knife is lighter, but does not have the weightless feel of all titanium.

Yes, the Ti-ZDP Leeks are flat ground as well as the CB Leeks.

I've FrankenLeeked a lot, and I mean a lot and have never ran
into compatibility issues other then screw lengths when using
two different scales.

This is just a drop in the bucket with all that I have done.
By all means, FrankenLeek away. ;)
1- Ti-Leek
2- Ti with CB
3- CK&T S30V Tanto with P&B smoked aluminum scales
4- G10 with ZDP blade

Thanks for the info SVRider.

Some more questions:

I know that the G10 scales are much thicker than the all steel scales. How thick are the Ti scales compared to the steel scales? Are they the same thickness?

Also, and more technical:

Does anyone have fairly precise weight comparisons between the standard steel Leek, Ti Leek and G10 Leek?

No problem DWRW.
Same thickness on the Ti and SS scales.
The SS Leek is 3.1 oz and the Ti and G10 are both 2.3 oz IIRC.
