Franken-Manix...Is it possible? (Lightweight Blade on Regular Manix)

So, I was just wondering. Is it possible to swap the blade off a Lightweight Manix onto a regular Manix "body"?

I know the CTS-BD1 is a bit of a downgrade compared to the S30V, but I was just wondering if anyone tried this out, or if the two models are too different mechanically to be compatible.

I know the lightweight is pinned, but where there's a will there's a way.

Here's a quick rendition of what I was thinking:

What would the point of this be? You would just end up with a reg manix, weighing about the same as the reg manix but with inferior steel? Just curious?

You would get an ffg blade on a g10 handle. There's a chance it might work, but youd likely mangle the lightweight model in the process and it still might not line up properly. $90 for a g10 version, plus $70 for the lightweight version equals $160...might as well just track down a sprint run if you want ffg.

The point would be to push the boundaries of imagination, engineering and creativity, and in so doing to further the human condition, bring disparate peoples together in love and understanding, and end the crisis in Syria. It all begins with one person having the courage to do what others thought impossible.

Whoa there, let's not get all melodramatic shall we. It's a Saturday after all. I can't say I see the point either. As far as steels are concerned, S30V will cut for days after BD1 has lost it's edge.

Or find someone to regrind the G-10 Manix blade.

One potential problem I see with doing a blade swap is that the Lightweight has a riveted pivot, so there's not much chance it would have the same size pivot hole as the G-10 version since I'm fairly certain the G-10 ones use the large stepped pivot.

Whoa there

As usual, you are spot on. I generally favor every flavor of modding and pimping, but I can't objectively contend that going from a better to lesser steel is an improvement. Its the creativity that I dig. Doing something that no other sick mind has yet dreamed up. That's the cool part for me.

it would be cool to see the s30v in the lightweight body, maybe swap the hardware from the g10 version to get it together.

YES! Every time I do something "just to see what happens" I'm using this quote.

The new Manix LW's (what you would likely get if you bought one right now) have screw pivots. I'm not sure if they are the same size as the regular Manix though.

I thought the lightweights now come with screwed pivots.
It's possible. Mine is riveted, but it's about a year old, so they could have changed it in the interim. Still, even if it's now a screw, it would likely be the two piece type that's smaller in diameter than the three piece stepped pivot on the G-10 Manix 2. I suppose someone with the tools and talent could drill out the BD-1 blade's pivot hole to fit the stepped pivot and machine a sleeve bearing for the S30V one so that it could be used in the Lightweight handle, but that's way beyond a simple blade swap.
