So I received a Doc Shiffer Field Recon in a trade. When it arrived it had some serious scratches in the blade and ti scales. So I decided to tear it down and try and make it better.

First I gave it a good cleaning and then removed the ano from the ti scales, clip, and backspacer.

Dipping the ti parts in the whink rust remover removed the ano with no effort.

Then I used sandpaper to get the scratches to a less noticeable point. They were pretty deep thou so this took alot of sanding. After that I acid etced the blade.

After It was fairly dark I stone washed it in a gatorade bottle, but I didn't care for the results. I went to harbor freight and piced up a cheap portable sand blaster and some glass bead media. About $45 total and it worked like a champ. I blasted the blade and the ti parts.

Then came the time for ano, I used 3 9v batteries, distilled water, baking soda, aluminum foil, and some ti wire. The ti parts came out a nice blue color.

When I traded for this knife I tried to find some reviews but they were scarce. I personally would have never paid almost $500 for this knife new. There are many misses from what I can tell, such as bearing that ride on bare ti and a pivot that doesnt site flush with the scales. It is very snappy and has a strong detent. The ergos are not to bad though and the blade shape is pretty nice. I plan on keeping it a a user.

Just thought I would share.
