Hey guys,
I'm a big fan of blurs and have been interested in making a frankenblur, however I normally don't take apart my knives and am not super confident in my ability to get it back together, especially the speedsafe mechanism. Needless to say, I'm not super keen on taking apart my zdp blur without knowing for sure what I am doing. Would anyone be interested in making a how-to video showing how to make a frankenblur? Or at the very least give me some tips?

Its pretty easy really. put the parts in a container to not lose them. If you doubt your memory take some pics during the process. I use a piece of tape when putting it back together to hold the speedsafe all in place, makes it a lot easier. Open the blade when you are disassembling.

Open the blade and pay attention to how you take the parts off/what order. Dont know why you want to mess with a ZDP Blur though they are perfect as they come ....

This was what I used when I disassembled my Blur. It really isn't hard. MAKE SURE the knife is open or you will have a bad day!!! When you put the knife back together you will have to get the speed safe bar back in the hole in the blade. Keep a thin object around to help with this. When I did my frankenleek I had to sand the liner lock on because the donor blade was from an framelock. You shouldn't have any problems though.

I assume the mechanism is same for the Leek... yes?

edit: nevermind... I see the same person has a video on the Leek :)

I'm not a huge fan of the dark brown handle...I'm thinking of putting the blade on one of the snap-on cf handles

Guess thats part of the appeal of the Blur being able to make the knife you want. I say go for it if thats what you want

As an added safety measure, I typically put a piece of masking tape over the edge of the blade. If you hit the edge of the blade hard enough, it'll still cut through the tape, but it at least keeps you from picking up little cuts as you shuffle parts around. For me, the trickiest part about the re-assembly is getting the front scale (the side with the torsion bar) back on flush. I actually used a small piece of masking tape to hold the cover for the torsion bar cavity in place, which kept it from coming loose and simply removed it once the 3 longer handle screws were mounted.

My 3 FrankenBlurs (green CF + CPM154 blade, black CF + S30V blade, regular handle + Snap-On blade) plus a red one.

Thanks flarp. Love your frankenblurs btw! I've seen a lot of cool ones but your green handle with the CPM154 blade is by far the best I've seen!
