So, these past few weeks have been very rewarding for this knife noob. There are two gents that frequent these waters that compliment the good intentions and dissemination of that which BF holds most dear; the propagation of knives, knowledge, and blade smith craft. While the online network suits the fancy of a great number of users here, I encourage you to all engage these like-minded personalities in the flesh, especially if theyre in your neck of the woods. While access to the information you read on these threads may be priceless, especially in comparison to the days when news traveled by horseback (*cough-esav), people getting together to share common ground and teach one another through tangible experience is the real gem hidden beneath these threads.
Id probably lurked through thousands of post in effort to understand the nomenclature of blades, but none of it really stuck in the grey gelatinous fleshy-fissures residing between the ears. One single afternoon engaging in conversation with, exploring the endeavors of, and opening an ear to those eager to share, learn, and succeed in the craft; Im miles ahead of where I was yesterday. Chances are if youve sent a knife in esnyxs shop for modification recently, Ive seen it, held its innards, been told what separates it from the rest No knife was more important than the one that was the topic of conversation, and trust me when I say we went through them all
I had the pleasure of watching him work on a few as well, all-the-while hed explain the functioning elements of that particular pattern, and how certain aspects of design contributed to the overall fluidity of opening and closing.
In the shop, hydration was a top priority. At least every hour, on the hour, philll would emphasize the significance of this unwritten rule by slashing through innocent water bottles with very large, very heavy, and very sharp HIs
Then arose the question Ever worked on a Busse???
There was some important questions as to how to pronounce Busse Like a school bus or bu-se like Gary Busey???
And so it began .
Philll's approves the progress, and with the focus of a JDAM missile, esnyx shoots right back into the process...
While the material wasnt completely foreign to them, they hadnt used it to facilitate this particular kind of handle design. I cant get over how the color scheme panned out. When esnyx and philll started to chew on the first objective; operation micarta schedule, each one of them had constructive input as how each layer would contribute to the final product. It was definitely interesting being able to observe the dynamic, each had their particular points in what colors would compliment my desire for obnoxious and loud, but the real interesting conjecture between them was how the particular layers would be arranged in order to facilitate a deliberate and pronounced pattern. They trudged through this pretty quickly, while there might have been a soiree of perceived bests, they clicked like Maverick and Goose.
Here is the end product and my new pride and joy. If youve ever followed any of my threads, you know why...
He touched up some pretty nasty scaring running down the spine hidden by the crackle paint, there was a nice gouge right there at the bottom that he hit with a file so it looked deliberate. There's also I nice palm print that's been etched into the blade... While these flaws may be purely cosmetic and trivial, they just saved me some $$$ for an upcoming fathers day present...
Feels like an extension of the hand. The ergonomics fit my stubby nubs precisely, both in the left and right grip. One notable element of the final product was how evan considered the ergonomics along with the design, keeping it uniform and symmetrical on the backside of the handle. The literal icing on the cake, that which I found most awesome; the deliberate effort of my initials, Z on one side: S on the other, glaring proud the surface, in vibrant toxic green I started physically bouncing at this point
I also got hooked up with a gorgeous sheath... The Rat pops in there like the kydex, I'd venture to say if this was a a horizontal rig, I'd be confident that the blade wouldn't jar loose... it's tight like a tiger!
This wouldnt be an acceptable Busse thread without me plunging the blade into something random So
I used to carry this in the small compartment of my bug-out bag, but now I'm sporting it on the hip, E.D.C.... I got two compliments today by complete strangers, and it even lifted the brow of the father in-law... He couldn't believe it was the same knife...
