Frank I got your Dodo in the mail this morning with the description of the lock problem you are having.
I have sharpened it up to where it is push cutting thin paper and postal reciepts with ease. I'm happy with the edge compared to what it was.
Now to the lock. I noted that there was no spring action to keep the blade closed which allowed the blade to lift up from gravity just high enough to let the point come up to possibly grab things. At first I thought maybe the springs were weak.
But in the process of taking it apart I noticed that as soon as I loosened a back screw holding the scale on, which is one of the small ones, that the ball snapped back up into place like it is supposed to and the knife went back to normal. Overtighten the screws holding the scales on and the springs act weak again. Apparently there is a happy medium you have to reach with the screws and overtightening the small screws can squeeze things together so much that it prevents the thing from working as it should. I've found playing with it that if you just make those screws snug verses overtight that its fine.
I'll play with it a little longer to be sure but I think thats all it was. Its functioning just like my own blue full serrated model is so I am pretty sure that was it.
