As most of you know, I not only make and sell knives, I sell knives for other makers and for collectors.

This guy sent me three $850.00 Postal Money orders to pay for a $400.00 knife. He then wanted me to wire him the difference. Yeah right!

I got the exact same scam, multiple times, when I tried to sell a bicycle online a few years ago.

Becoming a very common scam. These guys follow eBay auctions and when something doesn't sell they contact the seller and offer to purchase the item with money orders.

Every time I see someone wanting to send money orders or bank drafts for more than the purchase price, I know it's a scam and I stay well clear. I would also avoid someone wanting to pay for a $200.00 item with a $1000.00 traveller's cheque. It would be easy enough for these people to go get their money orders, etc., exchanged for one for the proper amount.

I am surprised that he did not want it shipped to his brother in Nigeria.

The same thing happened to me on ebay Twice. The money order that was sent the 1st time was fake.My girlfriend took it to the bank and was told it wasn't a Real Money Order.About a month later they tried it again. You gotta be careful these days:cool:

Well, I'm not a dealer, but if anyone wrote me that I would respond something like "I'm sorry but I only read English, Spanish, and French. Could you resend me your message? I'm afraid I couldn't understand the language in which it was written."

Man - I can't stand this netspeak!

Joss...that's not netspeak, its SCAMspeak. Whenever you sell something on the net these days you will get e-mail letters just like that -- same sounding text and story with minor differences. You can usually tell when it is a real customer or a scammer. The scammers all sound about like that e-mail that A.T. received.

Yep it's happening a lot more online these days. One person wanted to buy something from me off of Craigslist and she said her client would send me the money and that it would over the price agreed and that I should send her the rest. When I recieved the envelope it had six 900 fake MO's.

I hate this scam stuff!! I feel bad for all you makers and online dealers etc. that have to deal with this kind of crap!!

That's funny Joss & J! It is SO recognizable. Barely a sentence concerning the item and then they go on and on and on about payment and shipping, etc. All with enough atrocities to make 'Engrish' sound plausible...

You would *think* they would get a clue about how to properly scam someone. I shouldn't talk so loud....

I wonder if this person would even care to get the 'shipping agent crony' to pick it up. It's more about the money sent back than the item.

It's a shame. You want to trust people, but ya gotta confirm.

Too bad there're just too many shameless people around, these days.
