I just recently purchased a "Morning Glory" dagger designed by Fred Carter and made by Gigand. It's beautiful, but I can't find any information about it on the web. Does anyone know anything about the dagger, i.e., materials, value, etc.?

Hi Kevin,

Funny you should ask this. I, too, own a 'Morning Glory' dagger. I saw a pic of it and got it for a song (relatively). Once rec'd I, like you, was amazed at the nice quality and lines.

I talked to Fred briefly about this at the AKI show a few weeks back. He mentioned that although the knife components are made with CNC and other modern tooling, the inlay work is still all applied by hand by workers. He was impressed with the quality of the handwork as well. (After all, his name is on it!) He said there was a run of about 2000 of them worldwide. Yours is the second one I've ever heard of... :D

Nonetheless, it is not a custom knife--but it's a great replica at about 1/30th the cost!

All of this begs a picture. I'll see what I can do....

###EDIT

Here's the single entry from a Google search:

What isn't apparent is the delicate coloring on the guard and the handle. Looks like a a job for ME! ;)
