I was browsing through Knifeart and really liked Fred Durio's folders. Does anyone have or have handled one of his knives? What are your impressions?

The knives listed on Knifeart are a little fancier (reads pricier) than I can afford. Does Fred make more utilitarian (reads less expensive) models?

Anyone have his contact info? Website?

Thanks,
David

As far as I know he does not have a web site and I do not know of an email address either. Here is the contact info that I have.

144 Gulino Street,
Opelousas, LA 70570
ph: 337-948-4831

I have never handled one of Fred Durio's knives.

He seems to have knives at a lot of sites:

Cutting Edge
Arizona Custom Knives
Blade Gallery
Guild Knives
Knife Art

Here's a Joe Pardue folder for $400 that uses Fred's damascus:

And here are a couple of Fred Durio knives using Chris Marks damascus:

Actually,

I have handled a few of Mr. Durio's fancier pieces although I have never owned one:

1) Fit and finish are good quality
2) Pricing is reasonable for the work produced
3) Good action, lockup
4) Good materials
5) Overall good value

I know there was a writeup in Blade Magazine on him several years ago that was quite good. He also does make his own damascus. I had the opportunity to buy a knife from another forum member once that was just a little too thin for my hand. That was the only reason why I didn't buy it. I did like the knife. If the time, place and piece were right, I would not have any reservations about buying one or more of his knives.

Hope this helps.

I agree with Bob, Fred's work is very clean. Although I do not personally own one of his knives I have handled several of his pieces. They were all very nice. I would not hesitate to purchase one of his folders if you are looking for a well made gents folder.

Fred is incredible to work with, too...nice fella who makes an extraordinary folder. He makes some stock removal neck knives of ATS34 with nice kydex sheaths, too. Very reasonable.
