Picked up this Ott Bowie last August at Nordic Knives. Fit and finish is first rate. A bit more ornate than what I normally buy but it just called to me.

Another absolutely stunning bowie. Since this is probably my favorite style of knife, it is great that so many nice ones are turning up on this forum lately.

Wow! That is gorgeous! Hey if it's too ornate for you, may just be perfect for someone else.....(me) Seriously, congrats on your new knife. She is a real beauty. That sure is some gorgeous stag, and I really like the sheath too.
Thanks for sharing,
Mongo

I have to confess that the stag is actually imitation. I too was surprised when told. It really really looks like the real thing. The knife looks better in person than the photo and has an exception feel in the hand. Mr. Ott did a fantastic job on the knife and sheath. :D

Imitation stag? :barf:

Why would anyone take the time to make an awesome blade like that, and put imitation stag on it? Why not use Pakkawood?

Well, I guess that's one way to look at it. Initially I was put off on the idea on an imitation stag handle. But it's so well done and feels so good in the hand that I was able to overlook it. That and the cost was about half that of another similar Ott natural stag handled bowie. For half the price and the overall quality of the piece I though I could live with imitation. Guess I like the imiation stag better than Pakkawood. :p

I still think it is a great looking knife, but somehow the fact the stag isn't real takes away much of the appeal for me. I love real stag and no matter how good the imitation stag is, it is still imitation. That being said, it sounds like you got it for a very good price.

Is all you people look at the materials?
Don't you consider the craftsmanship that went into that knife?
It took the man as much if not more time and talent to make that knife as it would have if the handle were genuine stag.
The thing is gorgeous!

I guess it's kinda like boobs...
The real ones are always better, but sometimes the fake ones look pretty good too.
Still rather handle the real things though.....

My friends you play the cards your dealt... For the moment Sambar stag maight as well not exist, we have to use what is available and this knife is a masterful utilization of the materials used....very well done:eek:

I got this from Fred at the PKA show in August.

Well?............
the suspense is killing me. Is it live?, or memorex? Diamond or cubic zirconium? Real jigglies or silicone? Sambar....

I set up next to Fred at the PKA shows and his work is stunning. I have looked at the pieces that he has had on his table for the past two years and his workmanship is absolutely meticulous. He works to a very high personal standard and makes some great pieces. Hell of a nice guy too!

the Ott piece in question is outstanding. would have loved to have added that to my collection. BTW, although I have not seen in persona one of his knives another good knife maker is C. Camerer

Yup.., that's a beauty.., nice to see so many great Bowies showing up recently...
