I carried mine for most of the summer. It handled routine camp chores with aplomb. Cuts like crazy and holds its edge a looooong time. Great balance and feel in the hand. I was concerned that it wasn't secure enuff in the sheath but so far so good. Yes it is well worth the money. I carry it now a general camp knife in place of my upswept Moran.
Ditto!
It is great for general camping chores also for food preparing.
However for game skinning and gutting I would prefer Moran drop point. For fish flaying also.
I agree with Serg. The Perrin is a great all around camp knife and good back up self defense. It's sharp and thin enough to be used as a filet knife for fish if you have nothing else. However, for skinning the Moran would be preferrable. You should be able to find a Perrin for around $ 80 shipped. If you search the forums you may find a Moran for sale. Knives come and go quickly in my house but both the Moran and the Perrin I have are keepers.
I'm in agreement with others here on the wonderous Perrin. It has been one of my best performers among all my knives. I think it is a great blade shape for getting most any activity done and is nice and lightweight with a real secure grip. I have other knives that are more task specific in their design but the Perrin does a good enough job at most anything I ask of it.
For hunting alone I agree that the drop point Moran is better. For allroung camping chores I find the lightly longer edge of the Perrin to be an advantage.
