I was curious as to if any of you here had any experience with these simplistic, fixed blade knives of French origin. They come in 12C27 sandvik, and D2, two very proven steels AFAIC. I've jumped the gun a bit and ordered a Kiridashi. I'm eager to try it, and am sorta enamored by anything "bare bones", and fixed blade. These of course appeal a great deal to me. I haven't heard a lot of buzz about them, and searching the forums isn't yielding a whole lot of results. Again I'm just trying to find a bit of feedback in regard to them. I like the looks of the neck Bowie as well it strikes me as a somewhat useful profile. The name that goes along with them is held in high regard in the knife community. I've heard, and seen Fred's name attached to many collaborations, and designs.

Fred is a great guy and he's good fun to talk to... as well as rather tall and potentially scary. :p His knives are indeed simple and rough looking but they are made with a use in mind. I have a couple of his knives and one or two other things and find them to be just fine and quite useable. :)

Yeah, the more I read about him, the more I respect him, and his cutlery. These cheaper knives bearing his name, seem too simplistic to really be hindered, in too many ways. I'm not big on more SD oriented knives usually, but these are very becoming, and still useful for many, utilitarian tasks. Seems like they're just made to carry regardless of what you want to use them for. Pretty versatile, from defensive type stuff, to general use. I could see myself carrying this kiridashi often, and it's more than legal to carry a lot of different places.

My experience with Perrin has been the Spyderco offered Perrin PPT, designed by three knife makers including Fred Perrin. And I can say with full confidence it was one of the best folders Ive had the pleasure to use. had it not been heavy for edc, i would have still continued using it. i hope spyderco brings it back with titanium.

I don't think his own knives will be any different.

Had the Spyderco-Perrin Bowie - most excellent knife!

The PPT is awesome as well.

Dude knows his knives.

D2 Le Kiridashi came in yesterday, really nifty little knife. Screaming sharp, got even sharper with a bit of effort. Carries very nicely.
