I will be going to the Frederick Knife show next month, April 9th (I believe the show is the 9th and 10th). I will head to the show early, then Edgeworks in town. Going to make it a day trip, heading out to Antietam, then Crystal Grottoes caves, and finally a visit to Washington Monument state park and a hike on the Appalachian trail (a short one ;)). I've been going to this show for a while, and would like to know what others do in the area. Looking to keep it to Frederick county, cause I'll have about a two hour trip to get home that night (used to it by now :D). Going home Rte 94 through Taneytown MD/Littlestown PA/Hanover PA (home is White Hall, MD).

I'm looking for information on different places to visit. Trails, stores, museums, restaurants (dives, diners, sub shops, doesn't matter), doesn't matter. Every time I go out that way, I drive past Bill Moran's shop on old Rte 40. I missed an event out there last year, anything planned this year at his shop? I am familiar with Gathland state park. Looking for a pit beef stand to grab lunch, or a diner for dinner. Looking for kettle corn to take home out that way (I know about the stand on Rte 340 just outside Harpers Ferry). Produce stands? Out of the way sites with great views? Small hole in the wall sporting goods stores?

The only place I could mention is Edgeworks - and you already have that marked!!

There is a place in downtown Frederick called Brewers Alley - they make good beer - I always try their sampler or whatever the specials of the day are. Ask them to take home a Growler!!

Also - in downtown - The Tasting Room - great food - good place if you like wine. A little on the pricey side.

How about a walk along the river in downtown Frederick - the City has pumped a lot of money into the area and there are some bridges and nice hardscape / landscape areas in the North Market Street area.

Other than that I'm a little dry - I might go to the show - I have it on my calendar - I gotta see whats on the kids agenda that weekend.

I might make it. I could recommend some nice courses if you play golf. The Cracked Claw is a good place to eat but it's not near downtown and it's a little early in the season for hard shells. Plus, they have off-track betting simulcasts.

If you're looking for good BBQ, don't miss stopping at the Citco gas station in Lisbon, just east of the traffic circle, on Rt 144. They have some of the best BBQ I've ever had, done on those big black grills you see outside the right end of the building. It's one of our frequent stops when out for a Vespa club ride.

Right in Frederick, on South Market street, there's La Paz for good TexMex food. I highly recomend the beef and bean burrito al la cart. Very good burrito.

I wish I was going to the show, but the VA hospital is operating on my right foot next Friday to fix some wear and tear from an old injury. I'll be on crutches for the month of April. I'm already feeling a bit hincky over it.

Carl.
