Hi,

There's a possibility to get smth through "emule". But I am sure you won't get anything related to Sayoc Kali out there. Check Sayoc site, they propose a number of DVDs for sale. I heard only positive comments on them.
I do not have the possibility to purchase these materials but I am sure it's not a problem for anybody living in US or Western Europe.

All the best,

Sergey

Unfortunately I heard that Sayoc is not that good either, but I am new when it comes to FMA or anything related. I heard that Sayoc was used as the fighting style in The Hunted, but that is all I know about it. It seems to be lethal, but I am not sure. I dont know about everyone here, but if it is not lethal then I dont want to waste my time with it. Depending on any situation, you can always downgrade it to suit your needs. What got me interested in FMA is an article I read on www.realfighting.com about Raymond Floro. He has studied the arts of Escrima, Kali, and if memory serves me right Arnis. He has his own system that he took from these 3 styles and made his own. He has taught many SPECOPS around the world. As of now he doesnt have any DVD or videos out now, but he is working on them. Also if you like knives, take a look at jenseneliteblades.com. They are based in Australia, and have a knife or 2 that is of Raymonds style. I think you will like them. I know I sure did.

I wouldn't spend the money on the Sayoc DVDs. Their just isn't anything on the DVDs that will improve your skill if you are starting from scratch. That's just my opinion. I think to get something from their system, you really would have to put in some time training with a real sayoc instructor.

What form of knife fighting isn't lethal? What MA instructor HASN'T claimed to have taught "specops" guys?

I train in Floro Fighting System (FFS). It's substantially based on kali Ilustrisimo and western fencing, with loads of other things thrown in (when Raymond comes across something that's more effective than what he has, that gets thrown in and his old stuff gets thrown out).

The best free knife defense tutorials, IMO, are at Shivworks: http://www.shivworks.com/tutorials.asp Among the interesting pictorial articles are Expression of Pikal, ECQ Knife, and Knife Defense.

Hello Guys,

As I train in both Sayoc Kali and FFS (with Ray Floro), I would highly recommend either of them for training. As with any information put on a DVD or video, it is difficult to learn with out an Instructor or some type of one on one training. As for a new guy looking to find information about either Sayoc Kali or FFS, check out the 2004 Sama Sama DVD! Ray does a great demonstration of FFS, as well the DVD contains a bigger picture of Sayoc Kali that most are not familiar with.

If you have any questions feel free to ask!

Why would you say that something isnt that good if all youve heard is that it was used in one movie? Some of the Sayoc guys also do combat correagraphy (sp.?), thats what was used in The Hunted. Real Sayoc combat techniques were modified to "look better" on film. For example, the drills you say being done in the training scenes are not real drills but modifications that would look better on screen.
I think its very important that we all respect what each other is doing and not impune each others varied styles out of respect, specially when we may not have alot of info to go on.
I totally agree with you on the lethal thing. I might be inclined to disagree on down grading something lethal when you application require something more mild. If your gonna pull a knife to use in combat, no matter how well trained, the possibility of deadly results is always there. Take something a concept like Bram Franks biomechanical cutting. The idea is to disable the opposition's ability to continue fighting by severing major muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Problem is many of these areas also have major arteries and veins very close by, which when severed will cause the individual to bleed out and die. Point being, if your gonna use a knife, be read to kill and be ready to defend your actions to the police and a court of law.
If you want something less than lethal, leave the blade on your belt and punch, jab, gouge, grapple and kick the hell out of your opponent (thats why god gave you hands and feet. :D )
