My buddy called me up the final day of abalone season and told me the conditions were incredible. 3ft @10secs. I joined him and another friend to try to fill my final abalone tag. The water was crystal clear and the spot we dove was full of life. Its generally a difficult spot to get into unless conditions are just right. Most of the filming was from swimming out and swimming in. I got a few fish on film. Once the blood lust starts I forget to film. It was an incredible day. I stopped killing fish because of the amount of drag they created. I didn't even bother with the abalone. My buddies pulled limits of huge abalone. I had enough of a chore hauling the 40+ pounds of fish back to the truck. It was a beautiful day with some of the nicest conditions I had seen all year. The video on youtube doesn't even compare to the high-def version. I so love the ocean.

Hope you enjoy the video

Always wanted to try it. However I live near the Gulf of Mexico and the water isn't clean enough to try it unless I'm a few miles out at sea.

I've thought about using a speargun + scuba (Certified diver) but I don't have the equipment + boat + partner for it.

Jealous of you haha.

Nice work---on both the fish and the video!

I did a bit of ab diving when I was a teenager but haven't been out for them in many years.

One of the older guys I know lost a brother in an ab diving accident in 1949. The brother and his partner had a small two-man commercial operation. On a good day, they would get 1200. That's one of the reasons why abs became pretty scarce in SoCal.
