Hey BF,

I just saw a picture of the Freeman 451 folding knife(from SoCalEDC) and thought it was interesting. I googled and not a lot of reviews or really anything on this knife? Besides the companies page. Does anybody know much about the knife? Does anybody here have experience with it?

Kevin Cleary has a solid review of it on YouTube. EpicSnuggleBunny might as well, I can't remember. It is apparently a "sub-custom" ranging from 225 to 400 usd. It is remarked as impressively high quality by the reviewers I've watched. It falls shut on its bearings and looks fun as hell to play with. There is also a relatively wide ranging of customizability--something you'll have noted from their site. It is supposed to be absolutely 100% American-made.

Personally I want one so ridiculously bad. It has kicked the PALLAS from Spartan Knives down the list as my first button-lock flipper.

I have one, its a real nice knife. opens real smooth very high quality.mine is an earlier version, looks like they slightly changed the handles from round on the edges to an edge that's slightly different. you can google it and the site where they are available comes up. now they also have blue ,grey and red anodized handles, and you can pick different scale inserts and d2 or s35vn.i might get another in the blue .I like the grooves in the blade, just wish they didn't cerakote it I would rather it stonewashed.

I bought one recently and it's awesome. Super solid knife that just screams for hard use, but swings freely like a precision machine part, mirrored edge out of the box. The closest thing to it in my collection is the 0561, but it actually fits my hand better than the ZT.

Here's a pic I took recently for another thread:

It is insanely fun to play with... The button lock on a flipper is just the perfect marriage IMO. It rides pretty high in the pocket, which helps make this knife the only folder I can operate easily and completely with very thick leather gloves on. I do wish there was a deep carry clip option so I could feel comfortable bringing it more places... I emailed them about that and received an email directly from Jeff saying thank you and they would look into it.

I've carried mine for almost two years now, not everyday but more on weekends. The 451 is an awesome knife. I've been meaning to go back and get an S35VN/Titanium model. As you can see, it's got some stiff competition for hard use folder and ends up in my pocket more than any of these. Get one, you won't be disappointed!

I wanted to add that mine has broken in to be able to open by nail nick or flipper and that's hard to find in a knife.

Has anybody hard used it/tested out the performance of the button lock? How would it compare to something like a ZT 0560

One of the best knives out the for the money. The only knife I've handled that comes close to it in terms of flipping action is the Buck 830. It manages to be a load of fun, but it's also a tough, no-nonsense knife that I don't hesitate to use and abuse. Great product, just be warned that it can guillotine your finger until you get used to it.

Damn, you mate it sound so tempting...

It's a very, very nice knife. Just be sure your spouse isn't the type to commit homicide if you sit there flipping it all evening.

Thankfully, I have no spouse to worry about XD. By any chance do you know if his free shipping applies to Canada also?

Yeah, for sure. When you release the button lock that blade is definitely free fallin'! That means you can deploy it and close it with a super subtle flick of the wrist which makes it so fun to obsessively play with, lol. Flipper, nick or button flick so you can change up opening and closing in a myriad of combinations. If it annoys your significant other, let them play with it for a while and then go buy another for yourself ;).

When I bought mine Jeff told me he might have a 3 inchish version in the works. Still waiting but I'll be all over that if it happens.

Email and ask. He usually answers email personally...at least he used to.

I have one coming in about a week. I orderered mine with the S35VN blade steel and black aluminum handles with carbon fiber scale, plus an extra black G10 scale.

I am so excited

That knife looks very nice. I'd be all over it if he offered it in the 3 inch, and especially with a stonewashed blade instead of Cerakote. I wonder what his rationale is on only offering Cerakote?

Let me know what it is like when it arrives!

I wanted to add that mine has broken in to be able to open by nail nick or flipper and that's hard to find in a knife.

I've come up with five different ways to open this one.
Flipper
Thumb cutout
Pinch blade and drop
Tip up wrist flick
Press the lock button and allow the blade to drop

I disassembled mine and used some grease on the bearings. Way smooth now as it was a little rattle"y" out of the box. Sort of sounded like the bearings were rattling around a little.
Be careful taking this one apart. There's red loctite on the pivot screw...

I just did email him haha. Have you hard used you 451 BLF?

I used to hard use knives but now with an office job the hardest use they get are miscellaneous tasks around the house on the weekends. I did use it to scrape a bunch of lichen off a gravestone, but that's as tough as it gets. If I baton with anything, I get winded before a knife would fail, lol.
