French arrows

How accurate can you be? I would think you would need to be able to hit a five inch circle at thirty feet with regularity for it to be an effective hunting arm.

I have seen something like that being used by aboriginals. You would have to be pretty darn good.

Practice, practice, practice:D Somehow I think your curiostity will take you outside to find out.(archers never give up)

Interesting. I've read accounts of some cultures that figured out how to get a 'spiral football' effect by wrapping cord around a spear or javelin to impart spin on a throw... I guess the fins would be a big help in that department.

Son , I am sure my tombstone will read " Hey Watch This"

I Am busy making mahogany arrows. Maybe I will leave one a little long and try it. The Question is that the string must release cleanly. Any sideways torque is going to ruin your aim and take away a lot of energy.

Do you not think an Atlatl would work as well or better?

Better, an atlatl is something that I have thought about trying for a while, saw one demonstrated and was very impressed with power and accuracy.

I tried French arrows and they worked fine in practice. But when you really need them to work like when hunting, they go the other way.

Codger:D

Try a regular arrow. See how it goes.

The arrow will only go sideways if your hand does.

Of course, but I bet I'll have at least 6 arrows thrown by the time you make a thrower.;) I myself do not EDC a thrower and a knotted piece of sting is usually at hand.

I'd rather just make/use an Atlatl? I doubt that anyone could have 6 - 8 arrows made before I can craft one (or reach for one of the ones I've already made...).
But hey, still a neat idea.

Yea I've made atlatls too and have them around for fun, and no I can't make 6-8 arrows in the same time it takes to craft one, but then you might need to make arrows too... just thought it might be another trick in the bag.
