I have been looking at this hawk at Ragweed Forge http://www.ragweedforge.com/ThrowingCatalog.html and wanted to see what the opinions were on it as a user and a fighter. The shape of the head looks like it would be more efficient as a fighter than the traditional shapes. What about as a user? Any opinions or comments?

The website says he throws it a lot so I suppose it's alright.

If you want a fighter, go with an ATC VTAC.

It looks top heavy as a fighter and prone to overswing but I guess they worked okay for the French. I've used the frontier style hawks and that's been my preference. I haven't heard much comment made on the French style hawks in this forum.

Anyway, you asked for opinions.

I was really comparing more to the traditional styles. I alway thought that if I got a purely fighting style hawk that I would go with the CQCT Emerson tomahawk. Although, it looks to look a lot more expensive than the ATC VTAC. The lack of popularity of the French style here on this forum might be sayings something about the style.

It is a Francisca:

As far as I know it was intended to be a thrower not a melee weapon or a tool. As far as I know war-axes and lumber jack axes were more "standard".

I have no idea about combat properties, but as a tool, offset between eye and edge probably doesn't help control.

"Old Reliable" looks like a good choice, as are any that have the general shape of the Cold Steel Frontier Hawk... for throwing, I would recommend these types... they are what most competitors use for throwing...

hatchetjack recommends: "If you want a fighter, go with an ATC VTAC".
I would agree 100% with him on that advice as well...

We have three...It throws very well--quite easy to stick--and is great for chopping kindling (splitting) as the axe head directs the blow...

I've thrown one enough that it now has its third handle and this time I went a little longer then standard (all that I could get at rendezvous) and was going to cut it back...Used it on some firewood and worked better in my opinion, longer stroke, but you have to add an extra step when throwing...

I have to admit that I bought a Cold Steel Frontier Hawk about a month ago, and cut the 19" handle down to 14" (same length as my VTAC) because I liked the 'feel' better that way... then when I went to throw it (gulp)... I found I prefer the 19" handle better...

Oh well... you live and learn, right?
