Found this interesting link while searching for butcher knives. French trade knife from around 1628 looks like a large version of my foxriver seems to have been very popular with the french for survival and trade with the Hurons & Ottawas and other native tribes on the frontier. folding knives seem to have been popular also

Something beautiful about a hammer finish with some curly maple. I have to trade knives in the works with 2 blacksmiths. One a roach Belly the other a neck knife I designed. I cant wait!

here's a french style trade knife i have.. this one is was made by richard mize of fox creek forge.....:)
