Legal size flatbed. It handles knives with 9" blades. I use the scanning software that came with it, linked to Corel Photo House 3, an inexpensive image editor that came with my old scanner, and also can be had with some Corel clip-art packages.

I have a "scanning lesson" thread over in the Chris Reeve forum, using their CGG decorated Sebenzas as the test subject. These BK&T black-on-black knives are almost as tricky as a polished blade, to get the color and contrast right, and not have them come out rusty-looking on-screen.
