I saw a couple of knives on BladeGallery.com earlier in the year by this unknown (to me) maker from Jefferson, Georgia. By the time Blade came around John had earned his JS stamp.
They were of sufficient quality and style that I called and talked to him on the phone. We enjoyed a nice conversation and he offered to build me a knife in a style I was interested in : A Mediterranean dirk or Bowie.
John's work included integral forging, and the two aspects: this style of knife along with an integral guardless construction, were VERY appealing to me. (As most of you guys will know...
)
John sent me some initial drawings by .JPG and with the wonders of Photoshop I 'tweeked' them a tad to show my very favorite style. I don't think John would want to do this on every knife he builds, but he was very accomodating, and you can see for yourself that he was spot-on in his matching to the drawings. THAT was incredible to me. (see before and after here).
Let's look:
Here are more closeups:
To say I am pleased is an understatement. Here are the specs as John sent:
I mentioned this in another thread, that there is an increased interest and skill level in doing integral-forged knives. John's work is NOW going to be pretty well known, and I am pleased to have worked with him on this.

I didn't spend more time trying to display his temper line, as that is another style of image, but there is a distinct one there.Spec's on the knife... Steel is 5160, blade is edge hardened & tempered 3X. The spine is tempered to a blue color with a torch. Blade was tempered in an oven twice. Finish is 600 grit. Spacers behind the bolster are nickel silver & black fiber. Wood is figured walnut ( oil finished). Buttcap is 1018 steel.
