Friction folder as a tactical blades?

I see a lot of "tactical" friction folders out there. Can friction folders actually be tactical blades, or are they just for edc purposes? What got me questioning is if you stab something with a friction folder, won't it have a chance of the blade accidently fold on you and cutting yourself?

Depends how you would use it, people have used folding razors and things like the douk douk for a while.

Not saying it's a good choice. Some people just want to be different.

Remember, what people call "tactical" usually means something like "emergency defensive use." Can a friction folder be designed to work well under stress, slash and stab without cutting the user? Sure. And in some jurisdictions, you only have a choice between friction folders, slipjoints, and penny knives. I wouldn't want to have to use any penny knife in a "hard use" or emergency defensive role, but slipjoints like the UKPK and some friction folders are designed in such a way as to be up to the task.

Personally I feel that a locking folder is a compromise from a fixed blade, and non-locking folder is an even larger compromise...

I guess it depends on what "tactical" means to you (there doesn't seem to be a clear definition). If self defense is involved, a friction folder might work if used for slashing. Plenty of folks have done this with straight razors. You could also design a friction folder with a long tang and a forward choil, so that you'd have plenty of "lock" to hang on to and the choil as an extra security feature should the blade fold anyways.

I like friction folders and believe that well made ones are more than up to any utility tasks that a folding knife is supposed to handle. However, they wouldn't be an option for SD unless they were the only tool available.

They should work fine for a "tactical" purpose, but I'm more interested in learning about these friction folders you're talking about. Where have you been seeing them? Besides the Svord Peasant/PKM, Mantis Friction Folder, and Higonokamis, all the friction folders out there seem to be customs.
