Hey guys and gals,

So I have a trip plabned to go to England in the fall and am not liking the idea of not having a knife or gun the entire time that we are over seas. I have looked a little into the matter and it seams that I can carry a friction folder with a blade no longer tha 3" as long as I can articulate a need for the knife...

I am hoping that there are a few people out there that have some experiance with this and could recomend a more tactical style friction folder that is readily available and offer advice on the matter...

Why does it need to be "tactical style", OOC? Friction folders aren't often marketed as "tactical", and in the UK, that's more likely to draw attention anyways...if you DO get questioned, you're gonna have a harder time articulating a need for why you need a knife if the knife looks like some kinda tactical fighter rather than a utility knife. And since I assume you're far more likely to be using your knife for utility rather than engaging in knife brawls down at the pub...why worry about "tactical"? You could get something like the Spyderco UK Penknife(as the name implies, it was made specifically to be a UK legal knife), which is probably about as "tactical" as you're gonna get without going custom. Otherwise, you could go with something like the Svord Peasant or Mini Peasant, and of course, your plain old SAKs

wouldn't it be better to,
source whatever is available locally
upon reaching your travel destination?
the rest of the world isn't quite devoid of edge tools
which are able to fulfill the required application.
given that the choice may not be as sophisticated
or even dire;
but, it sure makes life easier.
even if you probably have to make do with something chinese

This one,but I wouldn't call a friction folder tactical. They come in two size blades.

Snody's stuff has a more tactical look. It would really make someone's day to confiscate one too.

I'll second the recommendation of the Svord Peasant knife. I prefer the full size version, but the mini works just fine.

Try a spyderco uk pen knife. Not a friction folder but it was designed for the folks across the pond to carry without any issues.

When I spent some time in England, I carried a small SAK, and it did everything that was required of a pocket knife. Plus the red handles mark it as something well under the radar from a distance. Most people over there who still carry any knife at all, will most likely have a small SAK on them. The Bobbies are used to seeing them.

Any small slip joint from Case, Buck, or other company will also do well. A Case peanut or pen knife, or a Buck 309 companion would make a very acceptable U.K. travel pocket knife. England is pretty civilized these days, very few marauding Saxons roaming about last time I was there.

Micheal Morris makes really nice friction folders from files. Very nice work and reasonable prices! Just google his name and check them out
