Hi folks,

I've been toying with the idea of making a friction folder and was hoping someone could point me to a how-to or a tutorial of some sort.

Best regards,

There are some links here that might help and one more (Manufacture of a Piedmontese knife (by Mick)) towards the bottom of this page.

There is a book available by Gene Chapman. You will find it in many muzzle loader supply companies.

Hi Dana, James Gibson and I are planning to get together in the next month or so and build some friction folders. We've already been talking about putting together a step by step picture tutorial of the process to put up on his website. It won't be up for another month or two likely, but I'll post back here when we get it done and posted to the site.

Hi Darren. I'd really be interested in that tutorial. Please holler when it's complete.
Also, Darren, I'll be ordering some of your wire rope as soon as I receive my Gene Osborn video on cable damascus :).

Thanks, Dave, for the link to the recent post. I'll have a look see.

Hi Erik, I'll take a trip to the local book store and see if I can order it. Hope to see you
at the MKA show again :).

Take care folks,
Dana

Sounds good. You're going to enjoy that video Gene put together, he did a great job! Check out the sweet forge he uses for cable with the foot controlled clamp in the back, it's a neat setup. Also, if you have a press, look carefully at his bevel dies on the press. I used a set for the first time this past weekend and was really impressed...forges out about a 12" OAL bowie from cable in just a few heats (after I had welded up a billet with 4 1" diameter pieces of wire rope on the press). It felt almost like cheating using the bevel dies!

I'll pay close attention to the forge in the video. Unfortunately, I don't own a press or a power hammer yet. I'll be doing everything manually for the present :grumpy: I hope there are some pointers for those who use hammer and anvil :).

By the way, Darren, do you also sell the anhydrous borax?

Many thanks!
Dana
