Friction Folders!

I'm looking for a knife that'll comply with the knife laws we have in the UK (no lock, under 3 inches) but will be safer than a regular slipjoint. I already have a Spyderco Penknife, but I'm kinda looking for something more classical and warm in design.

By 'friction folder' i mean the kind that has an extended tang that allows it to be opened one handed and adds a bit of extra security once the knife is open. Very much like this gentleman's page:

Does anyone know of any well made knives in this vain at a reasonable (student income) price?

I have started to develop a "hankering" for one myself.

Mike Wilson. one of the many makers who hangs around here, made some a while back and if I remember correctly he plans on making more. You may want to touch base with him. His work looks great to me from the pictures and his prices are quite reasonable. I think he is going to make another "batch" in the next few months if things work out OK.

Do a search for the Svord knife. It is a friction folder, and I think is available for around $40.

That would be instant gratification at even more of a student price: :D

I like friction folders.
Here's the 1 I have in my pocket know. It's by Bob Scales out of oklohama city

Stag & L6 blade.
You might want to have a look at Plaza cutlery, they have friction folders by Ohta & william henry version based on the ohta custom.
Good luck

Have you any contact information by chance on Mr. Scales?
