Most such knives are very old, traditional styles. Sometimes they're called peasant knives. The Japanese Higonokami or the smaller Opinel knives are example of friction folders.

Thanks -- and DUH! I actually have a couple of Svord peasant knives. And an Opinel too, but it has locking ring.
