I need to replace the cleaning stone that came with my #00, double sided, Frictionite hone. I bought the hone about 50 years ago; I've tried others, but I always come back to this hone. The hone came with a small cleaning stone that has finally become fragile and now exists in several smaller pieces. Does anyone know where I can replace or get a substitute for the cleaning stone?

Hm, that might be one of those stones from The American Hone Company, Monrovia, Iowa. I hear they made the best razor hones up until the woman that made them died a few years ago. She never wrote down the process she used and nobody was ever able to duplicate them, even using the original recipies and equipment. Heard that these people bought out the final inventory http://www.redtrader99.com/

If you don't have any luck there, you could try using a nagura stone like this http://www.toolsforworkingwood.com/...shop&Product_Code=NO-NAGURA&Category_Code=THW or this http://www.highland-hardware.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1512 They are intended to create a polishing paste on water stones but they do also clean and recondition the surface of the stones they are used on.
