Scanning thru hits on the popular online auction site using key words "buck knives" I plow up a snake once in a while. This one is US Based, Kentucky:

"Buck USA Single Lockback Knife With Clip" item 230926102171

This vendor, when I pointed out that the knife was a fake/counterfeit, asking that they remove the "Buck" from their advertisement and that it was not a Buck knife, said that they knew it was not real and that Buck had sold out to china and this was to be expected.

Does anyone follow the rules? Isn't this a federal crime? Isn't this a state crime? Isn't this against the rules of the popular auction site? How can you fight fake/counterfeit vendors based in this country? Or does it even matter at the retail level?

"does not appear to be real" Looks like the description was changed today. I hope nobody takes the bait and buys this thinking that they are getting an authentic Buck knife.

How many fakes does Buck get sent in for repair I wonder...

I've got a thread over at the, infrequently visited, AK&TI forum with a request for answers to the problem of fakes you might want to see/contribute to. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...-fight-US-based-vendors-of-fakes-counterfeits

This one's from Kansas and he KNOWS that these and his others are fakes but continues to list them. I don't buy the story that he bought them at auction from a sports store going out of business. I've been told that several times in the past, I think it's just a way to try to cover up where they actually bought them. I get an e-mailed catalog about every two weeks direct from a dealer in China that offers these and several other "Bucks".

I think everyone that reads a thread like this should go find the item and report it. I don't know if it helps get it off, but if a item gets enough reports maybe they will take it down. The other option would be a flood of questions from the thread readers telling them it's a fake.

Thank you kindly sithus1966. Kentucky has been reported, to the auction host, and the seller has been told it is a fake as you say. The auction site's policy prohibiting fakes: http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/replica-counterfeit.html

Also, the Attorney General's office for Kentucky has been given a link to the auction and told that the item is a fake/counterfeit using this form: http://ag.ky.gov/Pages/contact.aspx
