So I got this hankering to go to this old fire watch up on Little Cowhorn mountain, I'd heard good things about the location and the view. This is 17 miles east and 5 miles north of Fall Creek OR. So I'm fat right, this was a moderate hike by hikers standards, kicked my butt though. Only a mile long hike, scenery was nice, 4300 feet ish and from the trail head a climb of 600 feet ish. took about 1.5 hours to get up there.
A pic of the cupola on top, let's say it's 15x15 inside, recently renovated and you can sleep there on a first come first served basis.

Obligatory knife pic, treated wood so it has the incisions in it anyways, no harm done.

This is the last bit of trail to the shack, shot from the shack backwards.

Inside the cupola, rope bed, table, bench's and shelves, there's logbooks in there back to 2004 on peoples experiences in the shack, some juicy mostly not. I guess it's custom to leave some things behind for future user, I left mouse traps.

We had nine dude hikers show up about 10pm, real churchy, no swearing but drank like fish, at least a few of them were couples, (if you know what I mean) ;).
the ick factor was high, and this is a shot of sunrise at about 5am before we jammed out of there.
Pretty certain that is the 3 sisters out there, strait off and a little left.

Another knife shot at sundown ish. I just made this thing into a monster slicer with my KME, love this knife now. That's RedHeart wood and a bleach etch on that 15.

Wow. Thanks for the pics and detailed directions. If I was Forrest I would start running and be their in a few days. Looks amazing, the views are outstanding, great photo's.

Looks like a good time. I just got a 15, but haven't had a chance to use it very much yet, but I can tell its gonna be a favorite.

Great pictures. Makes me want to get back to the left coast. I was in Washington state for a few years. That part of the country is beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Looks like good times. Would like to see some up close photos of the 15. Looks really nice.

Brokeback! You could have left a juicy experience if you'd just stuck it out. :D
Y'all sure do treat wood funny up there. Down in these parts, they just stick a little yeller tag on it. :p

Dude that place is cool looking! When I make it out there one day I'll hit it up. All of our fire towers are built on actual towers because we don't have suitable mountains.

Same here. It's just a stair climbing expedition. And they're not really public access to start.

Cool place. I also like that patina job on your 15. The more I look at the 15 the more I think it will be my next purchase. I love my 5 and wouldn't mind having a mini version one bit.

some of them are manned full time and we do have a bunch up on towers too. I had better shots taken, but my camera skills are weak.
