The actor Ben Johnson had a line in a movie " The worst thing about getting old is getting old". No truer words have been spoken.
During the last 6 months I just haven't been able to get enough rest. I tried a 4 day work week and it wasn't enough. I had a heart attack 4 years ago and a recent stress test showed more damage than they thought at the time. I am now an officially retired old phart.
I am drawing my SS and the company I worked for has offered some occasional consulting work(more mental than physical) so me and momma will get by.
Right now I'll be resting and piddling in the shop. Last month I finished adding a dust room to the shop. It took 4 months instead of the 4 weekends it should have taken. I am tinkering with a design of a small cyclone type separator for metal dust. If it works, I'll be able to use my dust collector for both wood and metal.

Welcome to the club ! You are now eligible to get an official curmudgeon certificate !When a young wet behind the ears type discovers something you can say "new ? I was doing that 50 years ago !". Keep your mind and body active and enjoy .

Sorry about the heart stuff Mike, that bites the big one. If you are half as active and you sound to be it will take some getting used being retired. I had a recent scare myself, so stay active and try to look on the bright side of things, more time for knife stuff. :) Wish you luck my friend.

I have been a lot calmer and much happier since I retired. I still occasionally have a nightmare where I have been callled back to work. The nightmares have almost stopped... almost stopped.... almost stopped...almost stopped...

Congratulations to making it to the good part.

(I've met Mike, he isn't that old. or, er, well in retrospect, maybe he just didn't act that old)

Dang Mike - You better not go down like an old horse. I aint puttin' you down buddy!!!:D

Mike,
You are not retiring,,,,,you are changing to a new career as a knifemaker.....if it isn't profitable right up front...then you can be a retiree...and... a new careeree as a knifemaker....just stay happy and feel productive....or retired maybe temporarily.... but enjoy!

Hi Mike like they said welcome to the club, but we will be expecting a lot more knives out of you,but don't overdo--Best Wishes:thumbup:--Butch

My best wishes to you in this new phase of your life and career. Take care of yourself! Newbies like me need old guys to look up to. :)
