Vanguard asked me to post some more pics of this Friederich Hartkopf knife I recently received. So here goes :) The last pic is a size comparison with a Case Texas Jack.

It has ebony covers and a blade made from unspecified Solingen stainless steel. Fit and finish are excellent, though the point was very slightly rounded. I’m carrying it today, but will probably keep it as a ‘dress knife’ (no jokes please). It’ll probably get used mainly for opening envelopes, peeling fruit, and sharpening the occasional pencil – unlike my other knives which are reserved for skinning alligators and tree-felling! :D

Jack, that's a beautiful little knife!

Very trim and graceful looking, and looks like it's light weight in the pocket. The Texas jack looks blocky and awkward in comparison. And of course ebony always lends a touch of class to any knife.

Carl.

That really is a cool little gents knife. It's shaped a little like a baseball bat. How old do you suppose it is?

Thank you very much for the kind comments fellers. It's actually a contemporary knife :)

Congratz, Jack!

Hartkopf is one of the top-notch-cutleries in Germany nowadays, imo! They make real great knives. Yours one is really nice. I have had several Hartkopf knives through the years and I was always pleased with them. At the moment I have two of their knives.

For your question about the steel, Jack - Hartkopf is mostly using 1.4034 or 1.4110 and sometimes 1.4116 or damascus steel for their blades. I hope that helps a little. I carried my Hartkopf Scout Knife in ebony covers today ;)

Nice knife Jack. I remember reading about Hartkopf in an old James Ayres article years back. He had a very favorable opinion of them. Didn't realize they still made knives.

Thanks for the great pics of this wonderful little knife Jack, I love it! I especially like the nick on this one, ebony has always been my favorite wood on knives, and something about nice wide and large nicks just speaks to me, maybe it's compensating for my meat hooks ? :D
The bodice shield is pretty cool too.

Thanks again guys :)

Thanks for the info Andi. It was actually your comments in another thread that made me take an interest in Hartkopf, as I very much value your opinion. This was the only one I could find on sale in the UK, but I'm certainly very pleased with the quality of it. I'll have to check the EDC thread for a look at your Scout knife, but I'm sure it looks wonderful :)

Quite nice Jack, the grain of the ebony shows well. Even though I tend to prefer a serpentine shape, the lines on this one are so graceful, I'll have to agree with Carl's assessment.

Beautiful little knife, Jack. I really like this one. There are a number of small details that make it stand out from others I've seen, including the interesting contours and the shield.

I dig that little knife. Looks like it feels good in hand and rides
nice in pocket...

Thanks for taking the time to take pictures for me.
It is a gorgeous knife as everyone else has said. I wish I could find a distributor in the US that sells something like that

This has popped up on my radar once or twice too, I'm glad you got hold of one so I can take a closer look :)

Pitty about its rounded tip....no nail cleaning with that ay? ;)

Enjoy....oh and another one for the roll!

My pleasure Tom, glad to share them, and thanks again everyone for all your generous comments :)

It's indeed a shame that, as with Otter, the Hartkopf knives aren't more widely distributed.
