I knew it's a great knife, since I have one, but I was nervous buying a knife, esp. one that's affordable by my impoverished standards, for this particular friend, because he's a longtime knife-and-gun collector and has very high quality standards. He expressed a wish for a Damascus blade, and I've been trying to convert him to Kershaws, though, so I bought him the Skyline in Damascus and had it sent to him directly for his birthday.
He apparently got it last night. At least, he called me up at midnight in knife ecstasy. (I was asleep, but he left a message ... a warm thank you for one of the finest knives he's ever seen and the best he's owned. Yikes!) Apparently, he's in love. I talked to him today, and he said that not only is the Damascus blade beautiful and scary-sharp out of box, he couldn't stop opening and closing the thing (until his wife put her foot down at 1 a.m.) because he was so surprised how smooth and fast a non-assisted knife could be.
So, a gratifying gift purchase. Like I said, I knew instinctively Kershaws are great, but being a relative newb to the whole knife thing, I trust my instincts but was glad to have them vindicated by someone with a ton more experience with knives and perfectionist standards.
Another score for Kershaw!
