Greetings all, has anyone been to one of these? I have an opportunity coming up to go to one of these, and I'd like to know what to expect. I really don't want to get hit up for donations etc., I just want to go and have a good time and mingle with like-minded people. I hear that they have auctions and prizes too... with pretty decent odds of winning something.
Thanks in advance for your answers,
Mongo

I've never been to one but I imagine the donations are in the form of the cost of the dinner and the sale of the auction items. You might also be asked if you want to buy a raffle ticket. That's the way other fund raisers have worked that I have attended.

Never had the opportunity to attend one of these but it should be worthwhile . If you don't want to be hit up for money, best stay home. I have belonged for several years & get almost as many requests as I get credit card offers.

Today I recieved a "free " cap offer. Okay, a new cap with Winter approaching sounds good .

NOT ! A small contribution of at least $20.00 is necessary to get it. Ain't no way,Jose !

They do great work but I feel they "Cry wolf " too often .My real wish is that I'd have joined them in 1954 when carbines were $6 & M-1's were $8 or $10 . A friend bought 3 1911's for less than $100.

In your state several years ago I was in Rural King & tried to buy some 12 gauge shells & was asked for my ammo-purchase card [or similar document ].

" Say what? What did you ask for ? We don't have this in Florida. "

Had to show driver's license & made the purchase.

Ex & I were visiting her sister & husband , a retired police sgt. He said in your state if you're caught with a handgun [even a broken one ] it could be 1 year & $5,000 bucks .

Surprised they're meeting there.:confused :)

Uncle Alan Hurrah for our gun laws.....

I belong to the NRA, I think it's a worthwhile organization and a worthwhile investment. However, I also get annoyed at the constant mailings for additional donations and things I don't want. Take my membership money and spend it where it's supposed to go, not on the cost of postage and printing of extra mailings.
